There are only 4 drivers in V8SC history to have achieved 500 race starts, Craig Lowndes, Garth Tander, Russell Ingall and in July, Jason Bright joined the club. Team BOC surprised Jason with a special livery for this achievement, going with the same livery from 2011 when Jason and the team scored Team BOC’s first race win. Jason was happy with the pace of the car, qualifying in 8th position and looking forward to tackling 200 kilometres around the streets of Townsville. The start of the race is what ultimately ended what could have been a great result for Jason and Team BOC. After getting hit in the rear, the rear diffuser was damaged and downforce was lost on the car. The first pit stop was made later than most others and soft tyres went on in hope to make moves on the field whilst most others were on the hard tyres. Whilst Jason did get past a number of cars the tyre life was quickly degrading and after the final pit stop he wasn’t able to keep up with the cars in front. Jason finished the race in 19th position. As Brighty said, it could have been worse to not finish at all!
